I’ve Lost Someone to Suicide
Losing someone to suicide is one of the most painful and complex forms of grief. You may be feeling shock, sadness, anger, guilt, or all of these at once — sometimes within the same hour. Whatever you are feeling, it is valid. You do not have to make sense of it right now.

You Don’t Have to Grieve Alone
Grief after suicide loss can feel very isolating. People around you may not know what to say, or you may find it hard to talk about what happened. Our volunteers are here to listen — without judgement, without rushing you, and without any expectation of how you should be feeling.
What You Might Be Feeling
Bereavement by suicide is different from other kinds of loss. You may experience:
- Guilt — wondering if there was something you could have done
- Anger — at the person, at yourself, or at the situation
- Shame — worrying about what others might think
- Confusion — struggling to understand why it happened
- Relief — and then guilt for feeling relieved
- Deep sadness — missing them in ways that are hard to put into words
All of these are normal. Grief has no rules and no timeline.
Support Groups
Connecting with others who have been through a similar loss can be a powerful part of healing. We have previously run support groups for those bereaved by suicide and hope to offer these again in the future.
If you would like to know whether a support group is currently available, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us — we will do our best to point you in the right direction.

Taking Care of Yourself
In the midst of grief, it can be hard to take care of yourself. Try to be gentle with yourself — grief takes time, and there is no right way to do it. Some things that may help:
- Talking to someone you trust
- Allowing yourself to feel whatever comes up, without judgement
- Resting when you need to
- Eating and drinking water, even when you don’t feel like it
- Reaching out for professional support when you are ready
Whenever you are ready to talk, we are here. There is no right time to reach out — just whenever it feels right for you.
